Bi-Racial: Identity Crisis

"Bi-Racial: Identity Crisis" reflects the internal and external struggles of living between two worlds. Growing up in a predominantly white community, my father was one of the few African American men in our small town. Together, we faced discrimination and racially charged perceptions from those who could not see beyond the surface. Yet, within the African American community, I was often labeled “light-skinned” or “redbone.” Existing in this in-between space created an ongoing conflict—a sense of never being “white enough” or “black enough.” This piece speaks to that identity crisis—the questioning of self-worth, belonging, and the narratives we inherit about race. Healing begins when we challenge those ideologies, embrace the gray space, and learn to love ourselves wholly, without the boundaries of racial context.
